Out of touch a few days

Have some catching up to do. My last blog was from Bequia. Since then we sailed down to the Tobago Cays. On the way we caught a nice tuna that we have enjoyed eating. The Cays are a marine park. They have a horseshoe reef that wraps around an anchorage. It appears that you are anchored in the ocean. The reef is trying to make a comeback after a couple of hurricanes damaged it several years ago. We snorkeled and enjoyed the clean and clear water.

Yesterday moring, Oliver and I motorsailed to Mayreau and tried out the scuba gear. It is always strange to me to breathe underwater. (Almost as strange as sitting on a boat off a small Caribbean island and having access to the world wide web.) We then went a few more miles to Union Island. This is the first new place for me. Every island from here on will be new experience.

Union Island is typical of most islands down here. Their biggest industry is tourism, which is very slow right now. Lots of the locals just sit around and chatting, laughing and waiting for the tourists to start arriving. The islands depend heavily on the ferry boat system. All their resources are brought on the ferry. Some locals live on one island and work on another and the ferry is their commute. The ferry captains whip those ships around like runabouts and keep them on schedule. (Which is amazing here in the islands, mon.)

Today we clear out of the Grenadines and go to Petit Martinique, which is part of Grenada. Tomorrow we will clear customs in Carriacou. There should be wifi there so we will be in touch soon.   Warmest regards, Steve
